Coffee is one of the most favourite drinks for many people. It is mostly a part of our existence that some of us can’t start our day without a cup of it. It’s so good and energizing, but when we spill it on the carpet, the day already becomes draining. There’s no amount of coffee on earth that can make you feel better if you have to clean stains off the carpet.

Some stubborn stains are best dealt with by professional cleaners. But if you want to give it a try, here are some tips you can use to clean your coffee-stained carpet.

1. Look for absorbers right away.

You need something to absorb the spill so that the stain will not spread further. A clean, dry rug is the best option because the fibre will absorb the moisture. Another good option is a paper towel. This might be the quickest one you can grab. Just use plenty to absorb the spill entirely. Don’t use damp rugs because it will add moisture to the coffee spill.

2. Clean the affected area.

One of the best-suggested solutions is a solvent in either spray or powder form. Just make sure it is labelled safe for the type of carpet you have.

If you don’t have a suitable commercial carpet cleaning solvent, you may use warm water and laundry detergent. If you think it’s too harsh for your carpet, use liquid soaps instead. Lather it properly before applying to the spill. The best common home solvents are club soda, white vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide.

If you want to use any of these, be sure to test it on a small area of the carpet first. Dilute the solvent as necessary.

Another tip you must remember is never to use bleach. Bleach will only make the stain worst.

3. Dry the area.

Leaving the spilled area wet after your cleanup process will leave the carpet discoloured. It will also invite the formation of moulds. Additionally, it will leave a foul odour that will stink up the carpet and the house.

Use a dry rug to soak up the remaining moisture. A small fan will also aid in the drying process.

If you don’t have a dry cloth, use a lot of paper towels. With paper towels, however, you may have to apply more pressure and more paper towels.

4. If it’s an old coffee stain, there’s still hope.

For an old coffee stain, use a cleaning solution. This involves making a paste using water and baking soda. Using a toothbrush or your finger, cover the stained area with the baking soda paste. Apply generously and thoroughly, then let the mixture dry. When it’s dry, vacuum the paste from the carpet. Use a scrubbing brush or a rug to fluff up the stained carpet.

Sometimes, however, despite your best efforts, nothing may seem to work. Coffee spills are too much for expert coffee drinkers but amateur carpet cleaners to handle. If removing the coffee stain is too much for you, call a professional carpet cleaner. Make sure they’re the certified ones so that you’ll get what your money is worth.
